Summer is Here!

We sure are enjoying this warm weather here in WV! We've been taking full advantage of it too! My boyfriend, Josh, and I took a trip to Parsons, WV last weekend for a kayaking and camping trip. It was absolutely beautiful! Here is a picture that I took on the Cheat River:
The scenery was just breathtaking. I wrote more about our trip in our upcoming e-newsletter, so be sure to sign up for it if you haven't already. We will send it out next Tuesday, June 24th.

Another way to enjoy the outdoors is to do your sewing outside! I don't have the best set up in my back yard yet, so I want you all to share pictures if you have an outside sewing spot so I can get some inspiration. Here is a picture my mom (Judy) sent me of her set up outside at her mountain home:
She gets to sew outside while looking out into the Monongahela National Forest... isn't she lucky??
So when you share your pictures, you can post them to our Facebook page, Twitter, or Instagram. Be sure to tag us in your photo and use #sewoutside.  We are also on Google+ now, so be sure to follow us if you are on there!

July is almost here, which means our Fall 2014 issue will be here soon! This time, our photo shoot was in historic Henderson Hall, a 19th-century mansion located near our office in Williamstown, West Virginia.

Here is a little preview of the cover!

I hope you all enjoy your weekend, and I look forward to seeing your pictures!

Making My First Quilt!

Hi everyone!

I've decided it's finally time for me to make a quilt. I've grown up in a family of quilters, I've worked for PQP for three years and still haven't learned to quilt. So I wandered around the Woolen Willow this morning and my eyes went straight to Edyta Sitar's Laundry Basket Quilts fabric (I love everything she makes!) I first fell in love with her designs at Spring Quilt Market last year in Portland, OR.
So now I have two jelly rolls and a charm pack:

I'm sure between my mom, Aunt Jeni and Aunt Gretchen, I can come up with a design, but I'd also like input from our followers. If you have any ideas for a beginner quilt, please share them with me! I'm so excited to get started :)

Thanks!!
Leah

It's a Bookazine!

Cherie Shaeffer owner of "Quilts in the Attic" and and Paula Barnes of "Bonnie Blue Quilts," were talking about our magazine and coined the new phrase, "bookazine."  Don'tcha just love it?  I think that name might stick...thanks Cherie and Paula!

We are having a wonderful time at Market, and are enjoying Salt Lake City.  Jeni and I found a really neat restaurant, "The Inferno Cantina," around the corner from the convention center on Pierpoint Street-or-Drive-or something.  The food is authentic (or nearly authentic) Mexican, really really really good, and the atmosphere is calm and pleasant.  They play great American music, and the decor is super fun!

Salt Lake City is a beautiful, clean, and fun town.  All the Utah folks we've met this weekend are so nice!  Here is a photo of one little corner of the town.  Love those mountains!

Jeni took a little break from the booth this afternoon and returned with this cute little sample from the Slice booth.  She knows I love their Riley Blake Hootie Hoot samples.  I have the fabric to make a quilt for my little grandson who is now two months old.  I bought the fabric at Fall Market in Houston and haven't started the quilt.  Somehow holding a full-time job AND publishing a magazine doesn't leave room for making quilts.  Here are photos of the sample AND of my handsome little Julian.  I bet he's growing while I'm away at Market.
